Restoration of Traditional Houses - Spulber Village Museum

Visitable
Enjoy an adventure into the heart of Vrancea, where history and tradition merge in an idyllic mountain landscape. Spulber commune, located in the western part of the county, hides architectural treasures and legends that originated on the banks of the Zăbala River. In the midst of this picturesque scenery stands a traditional house dating back to around 1900, acquired by the Town Hall for restoration and transformation into a village museum.

Here, you will discover that every element of the Vrancea household has a precise function, from the semi-sheltered porch to the shed used for various household activities. The architecture of the traditional house shines through the use of the Blockbau method, a technique specific to the area that employs horizontal log crowns. At the heart of the household ensemble, the house stands out with barns, stables, and large sheds, revealing a long tradition of cattle breeding.

The inhabitants keep alive the craft of woodworking, the making of alpenhorns, carefully passed down from generation to generation, as well as that of weaving on the loom. Legend has it that the alpenhorn used by Baba Vrâncioaia played a crucial role in the history of the place. With its sound, it called her seven sons, who joined Stephen the Great in the fight against invaders. This instrument has become a symbol of the resistance and unity of the people of Spulber, a reason for celebration to this day.
Discover the charm of this legendary place and let yourself be carried away by its rhythm.

Story of the place

For the inhabitants of Spulber, the alpenhorn is the instrument that was used in the past by mountain shepherds, as well as the "trumpet" that alerted their ancestors to the imminent attacks of invaders. Every household owner has such an instrument at home.

In the locality, there is also an artistic ensemble of alpenhorn players - children and adults, which has participated in numerous county, inter-county, and even national artistic events, obtaining important recognitions and awards.

To highlight the alpenhorn, an annual folkloric event dedicated to this musical instrument takes place - the "Voice of the Alpenhorn" Festival. Furthermore, there are two registered trademarks with OSIM Romania, namely, BUCIUMUL and BUCIUMAȘII DIN SPULBER, which have given greater value to this ancestral instrument as well as to the alpenhorn players' ensemble operating within the Spulber Town Hall.
