The people of the place still have a special connection with the small “Assumption of Mary” wooden church in Brăești commune. That's why they want to keep it almost hidden, near their homes, like a temple sanctified from legends. It is more a holy place full of life and history than a simple museum. “We wanted it to be lively, enlivened, lest we forget it,” people say. It's intimate, warm, a truly blessed place.
Built around 1745, it is among the most successful wooden masterpieces of traditional craftsmen.
Its timeless beauty has been preserved to this day. The church has the original linden wood iconostasis, the fish scale patterned tile roofing and the porch is filled with plant motifs carved with a special craftsmanship.
It's a wood-written story you shouldn't miss!
History and architecture
According to the information found in the church inscription on the front of the porch, the founder of this place, built with high quality oak beams, was boyar Miron Gorovei. Among other things, the inscription above the entrance to the nave refers to the fact that the church was repaired in 1880 by the Spirescu family. Also in that year, the interior painting of the church was completed by painter Herghici.
Important inventory
Inside the wooden church, you can find old church books and icons that have been preserved for hundreds of years. At present, a wooden diptych inscription with names of the departed, with painted doors of great artistic value, is carefully kept in the altar.
