Built at the top of the hill on which the village of Fedeleșeni in Iasi County is also located, the wooden church "St. Nicholas" can be seen from afar. It was always an irreplaceable presence for those who needed peace of mind.
The elders are strongly connected to the little church. They always come here, and their loved ones, gone to eternity, are also buried here.
Built of massive oak beams, joined in horizontal crowns, covered with shingles, for hundreds of years, the small place of worship stood firm, like a heart of the village.
A trip here is like a trip back in time, an experience worth living!
Brief historical foray
The holy place is several hundred years old, but the exact date of its construction is not known. The only estimate that could be made is that the church would date from around the reign of Stephen the Great.
The first repairs of the edifice took place between 1750-1772 and were carried out by the hieromonk Varlaam. The following works took place only in 1908, with the help of the residents of Fedeleseni, very attached to their church, because for centuries it represented the religious center of the village.
Architectural features
Raised from massive oak beams, on a stone foundation, the place of prayer is nave-shaped and has four rooms: porch, porch, nave and altar. The porch is closed, although it was originally open. It is located on the south side, and a square bell tower rises above it.
The architectural element that denotes the age of the complex is the dividing wall between the nave and the pronaos. According to the notes in the parish monograph, this was "women's chapel" because, in the past, the pronaos was intended exclusively for women, and the naos for men.
