Route of Kulas

Romanian 'Cule': Between Tranquility and Siege.

Together, we discover the contrast of boyar life in Wallachia, specifically the residences that transformed into fortresses at the first sign of danger, enduring the tumults of the 17th and 18th centuries.

In times of peace, rural life flowed peacefully within the thick stone walls. But when enemy armies threatened, they became true bastions, built with military rigor. The battlements, once firing slits for defense, now serve as windows through which we seem to witness the upheavals of Wallachian boyars unfolding before our eyes.
