Each stop is designed to awaken the senses in a unique way and promises to offer a fabulous experience.
At the heart of this region, south and west of Târgu Neamț, you will enter the Land of the Bison, an ecotourism oasis located in the Vânători Neamț Natural Park. Here, local producers and culinary experience operators offer you a wide range of authentic products, reflecting the authenticity and beauty of the place, products that can be found at the organized eco-brunches. More details about these can be discovered here.
The Land of the Bison will enchant you with its unparalleled beauty and cultural richness. Here, the monasteries and hermitages provide shelter for over 1100 monks and nuns. The monastic villages associated with Agapia Monastery and Văratec will envelop you in their tranquility and reflection.
This is not just a place dedicated to spirituality, but also a place steeped in history, tracing stories from the Neolithic period to the present day. Here, museums and natural sites await visitors with open hearts, ready to reveal the secrets of the past. The memorial houses of great writers such as Mihai Eminescu and Ion Creangă will transport you into their world and the inspiration they found in these lands.
As you explore the Land of the Bison, you will be greeted by warm and hospitable locals who will tell you captivating stories and pamper you with traditional Moldovan dishes. From polenta with cheese, sour cream, and pork scratchings, to expertly prepared Moldovan stew, or delicacies like cabbage rolls with sheep cheese wrapped in beet leaves, you will explore a whole culinary destination that will endure over the years and will remain in your memories as a memorable one. Authentic products such as Tazlău black bread, sour cherry jam, and mushroom zacusca will reveal unique flavors and authentic traditions. You can experience these unique experiences only by participating in special gastronomic tours, opportunities that will allow you to spend time with old and new friends and explore the cultural and culinary richness of this special place.
Now, before reaching a new destination, let's take a break and prepare the most delicious cabbage rolls with sheep cheese wrapped in beet leaves you've ever eaten.
You will need 2 cups of the finest sheep cheese, 1 cup of rice, one onion, 25-30 beet leaves, two cups of sour soup (borș), 100 ml of tomato sauce, water, and a cup of sour cream. We recommend that this delicious, traditional recipe from the Land of the Bison be cooked with friends, seasoned with many laughs and stories. So, sauté a large finely chopped onion, then add a cup of rice, salt, and two cups of sheep cheese. Mix well, then fill the cabbage rolls in the usual way. Boil them in a mixture of sour soup with tomato sauce and water. Finally, sour cream is added to the sauce. Serve slowly, in peace, with joy and gratitude!
The second stop takes you to the Bicaz Lake area, located between the Stânișoarei Mountains and Ceahlău. Here you will admire spectacular landscapes and discover unique local flavors and talented craftsmen.
In the Neamț Depression, the third region you will head to on your journey, you will meet traditional craftsmen ready to tell you about the local culture and traditions, and then craft them into a souvenir that will remind you of the wonderful days spent in these lands.
The last stage of the journey will take you to the Cracău-Bistrița Depression, where the villages will remind you of local traditions, and the unique aromas of times past.
