We are starting the road signage works for the tourist attractions included in the Attractive Romania program
Starting next week, road signage works will begin for the tourist attractions included in the national cultural tourism program Attractive Romania. This stage marks an essential step in facilitating visitors’ access to the country’s cultural heritage and in improving the tourism experience at the national level.
Two components, one single goal
“Attractive Romania has two major components. On the one hand, the digital component provides the public with an online platform bringing together 275 cultural attractions, grouped into 12 thematic routes. Each route is accompanied by text, photo and video content, audio guides and, in some cases, virtual tours and 3D animations, with materials available in six languages. On the other hand, the physical component involves the on-site marking and signage of these attractions, in accordance with the strictest national and European standards, to ensure fast and accurate orientation for tourists.
A complex process, more than simple signposts
For the 275 cultural and tourist attractions, the teams of engineers and surveyors involved in the project on behalf of the implementing body carried out detailed mapping of all access routes, from pedestrian paths, communal and municipal streets, to local, county, national, European roads and motorways. The mapping was followed by a rigorous filtering and approval stage, during which each point was assessed and approved, in accordance with the legislation in force, by the Romanian Police – Traffic Directorate (IGPR), County Police Inspectorates, the Road Safety Technical Commission within CNAIR, County Councils and local administrative authorities (UATs), in their capacity as road administrators.
The process took into account the program’s clear technical requirements:
- Road signage must be installed at successive distances of 3 km, 2 km, 1 km, 750 m, 500 m and 250 m on all access roads intersecting within the specified radii, up to the vicinity of the attraction.
- In addition, attractions will be signposted at strategic points (airports, railway stations, ports, parking areas, bus stations, tourist information centers, service areas and fuel stations) within a minimum radius of 10 km. Signage will also be present on pedestrian routes within a 5 km radius.
- Each location sign will include, where legislation permits, a QR code offering direct access to the “Attractive Romania” web platform.
- A minimum 7-year warranty is provided for each installed element.
The first routes to be signposted in this manner will be the Danube Delta Cultural Landscape Route (Tulcea County), the Fortified Churches Route (Harghita, Alba, Sibiu, Brașov and Bistrița-Năsăud counties), the Monasteries of Moldova Route (Iași, Neamț, Suceava, Botoșani and Vaslui counties), the Curiae Route (Sălaj, Harghita, Covasna, Cluj, Bihor and Satu Mare counties) and the Cule Route (Mehedinți, Gorj, Vâlcea, Dolj, Olt and Argeș counties). These five routes include a total of 65 attractions across 22 counties.
High standards for a sustainable experience
The signs produced and installed comply with applicable technical standards. They are made of galvanized steel (minimum 1 mm thickness), anti-corrosion treated and electrostatically painted, covered with Class 3 reflective foil for enhanced visibility, and carry a minimum seven-year warranty.

The entire signage system is designed to function as continuous outdoor promotion for these attractions. The selection of signage types is intentional:
- Advance road signs placed within traffic flows will give travelers time to decide and will guide them when they wish to visit.
- Directional signs will lead travelers all the way to the attraction.
- On-site panels will include visual identity elements, namely the ROA insignia, the name of the route and, where applicable, the UNESCO label, as well as a QR code facilitating access to the “Attractive Romania” platform.
