We are waiting for you between February 28 and March 2, 2025 on the Titulescu Park Alley in Brasov with dozens of artists from Brasov and beyond to celebrate the arrival of spring.
They bring with them everything they have worked on most beautifully, martisors and all kinds of crafts, works made with love and care, only good to give away.
Martisorul – March 1
The month of March is also called marț, marte, marțiu, Marta, gemănar or făurel.
On March 1, martisorul is celebrated, Baba Dochia Day or Baba Marta (head of spring), the entry into the days of the grandmother. Calendarically, astronomically and traditionally, spring begins.
The custom of putting martisorul
The martisorul is put on on the morning of March 1, until sunrise. It acts as an amulet, to counteract the destructive function of the white sun (materialized in the silver penny). The amulet is made up of two threads, white and red, sometimes white and black, which embody the struggle of life over death, of health against disease. It is worn until the arrival of the storks, which were supposed to take away the blackness (oxidation produced by the sun) and bring whiteness, health. After wearing it, it is thrown or hung on a budding tree or a rose.
Also on March 1, friends and relatives kiss the 9 old women, one per person, calling the days the days on which they are kissed. As the day is kissed, so will their heart be all year.
More details on the page Piața Țărănească.
