About

We invite you to the 12th edition of the Haferland Week festival, the largest event in Romania dedicated to promoting the culture and traditions of the Saxon community in Transylvania, which will take place from August 8 to 11, in ten localities from the historically known region right Oat Country: Archita, Saschiz, Homorod, Rupea, Criț, Roadeș, Meșendorf, Cloașterf, Bunești and Viscri.

The theme chosen for this edition, "History, tradition and culture. Yesterday and today in Haferland", reflects an anniversary of major importance for the history of the Transylvanian Saxons: the celebration of 700 years since the first documentary attestation of the Rupea Fortress, one of the most beautiful and largest medieval fortifications in Transylvania, an event that will take place right in Rupea, on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

At this year's edition of the festival, around 10,000 visitors are expected from Romania, but also from countries such as Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom or the United States of America.

The organizers have prepared a series of special events for guests of all ages, so that all participants feel, for the four days of the festival, part of the Saxon community - with visits to fortified churches and traditional Saxon households, with concerts and balls with traditional Saxon music, organ concerts, folk dance performances, film screenings, conferences with the public, exhibitions of folk crafts and costumes, workshops for children and adults, guided tours, visits to farms and local households, tastings of organic products and many others. Access is free to all events within the festival.
