Retro Marktplatz will recreate the Council Square from 100 years ago!
The "Craftsman's Guild from Șara Bârsei" invites you to the second edition of the "Retro Marktplatz" event, between September 13-15, 2024, in Sfatului Square.
👉 How can craftsmen, artisans and small producers register for the fair

👉Craft workshops and demonstrations
In the more than 40 pavilions you will find the products of contemporary artisans, from small porcelain objects, painted ceramics and jewelry to dresses decorated with felted wool, food products made in the households of small farmers or antiques. Also, in one of the pavilions, there will be manufacturing workshops that visitors to the fair can participate in.
👉Visitors will be able to ask questions to personalities from the past
Several celebrities from other times, recreated with the help of Artificial Intelligence, will answer your questions on a led screen located in the square. In this way, you will be able to communicate with Ion Luca Caragiale, Sextil Pușcariu, Johann Gott and Elena Mureșan, who will tell you - among other things - what Piața Mare was like in the center of Brașov in the past centuries.
In front of the screen, on the cobblestones of the old square, will be present, just like in the past, several brass bands that will delight the audience with polkas, waltzes and marches. The artistic program will be completed by several soloists who will perform opera arias, old romances and folk songs.
👉Advertisements and vintage photos
The organizers of the event have also prepared some video materials that will run on a screen. In one of the films, numerous advertisements of Brasov stores from the past and old photos of the city from vintage postcards will follow. In another film, the images of the current Council Square, filmed with a drone, will be superimposed with the images from the old postcards. Fans of the history of Brasov will be able to learn a lot of new things about what the grandparents and great-grandparents of today's Brasov residents sold and bought. The names of the stores from a century ago and the advertisements of the products sold by the merchants of the past will reconstruct the atmosphere of the Council Square from the time of the great-grandfathers.
You can stay with an unforgettable memory, taking photos in the retro market atmosphere, together with characters dressed in period clothes, who will tell you about the Brasov of yesteryear.
👉The stories of old Brașov
The organizers edited number 2 of the "Piața Sfatului" newspaper, in large, black-and-white format, imitating the pagination of Brașov newspapers from past centuries. The publication, which will be distributed to visitors to the fair, reproduces numerous advertisements from the old "Gazeta Transilvaniei". In this issue you will learn the stories of the Brasov merchants of the past, a famous love story from the Safrano Palace and the mysteries of the Brasov doctor Honingberger. The newspaper also publishes the history of the members of the Czell family from Brasov, the best-known beer producers in interwar Romania, and a complete history of the evolution of the old town over the centuries. Also in the pages of the retro-newspaper "Piața Sfatului" interesting advertisements from a hundred years ago are reproduced.
Among them: the announcement of the arrival of the famous cowboy Buffalo Bill in Brașov and the advertisement of the first car dealership opened in Brașov on Portii Street (today's Republic), in 1908, in which "motor carriages" were sold.
