About
The National Museum of Banat together with the Timiș County Council is organizing the 6th edition of the Huniade Castle Medieval Festival. Thus, between July 19-21, in the Huniade Castle park in the center of Timișoara, spectators of all ages are invited to the unique event, which will revive the atmosphere of the Middle Ages for a few days.
The Huniade Castle Medieval Festival, which has become a precious tradition for Timișoara and Timiș County, was conceived out of the desire to celebrate and capitalize on the historical heritage. Through this event, we aim to invite the public to a journey through time, to relive a few days together in the world of noble knights, graceful ladies and skilled craftsmen. We strive to recreate a universe of honor and beauty, where traditions, music, dance and gastronomy combine to create a memorable cultural experience.
For this edition, we have ensured that we have a diverse and engaging program of artistic performances. It will include:
Friday, July 19: Time Travel
It is the first evening of the Huniade Castle Medieval Festival, when we start our journey back through the ages to the colorful Middle Ages, imagining the Castle as it was, towering over the city, with proud walls, protected by waters, in tinkling with weapons and sweet sound, of court song, with:

20:00 - Parade of participants: knights in armor, on stallions decorated with ornaments and expensive fabrics; nomadic warriors from the steppes of the East, skilled archers and spearmen, on small and swift horses; mercenaries on foot, with halberds and hand cannons, procured by John of Hunedoara from all over Central Europe; envoys of the Papal See; chosen warriors, from different periods of the Middle Ages, from the Varangians of the 10th century, to the heavy Timurid soldiers, the brave Hungarians of the Border Fortresses or the Ottoman soldiers.

21:30 VIATORES FESTIVI – VULGARIS MUSICA MEDIAEVALIS.
I arrive from Transylvania bringing the old dance music of the peoples of that ancient land - is it medieval? Certainly yes, but who knows what millennium its origins come from? A live concert with a group traveling through the corridors of time..
22:00 TRUVERII - live concert - A musical journey through the centuries throughout Europe, browsing the collection of "Cantigas di Santa Maria" by Alfonso X or "Libre Vermell de Montserrat", but also playing tarantelle and pizzica from the South Italy, Estonian dances, Occitan, Breton love stories and Scandinavian legends.
Saturday, July 20: Huniade Castle Grand Tournament
It's the day when racing and celebrations take center stage! And we have races for everyone, from the most brilliant knights, to the common soldiers, the wanderers of the steppes and, of course, for the people of Timisoara, the beloved public of the Festival! And, as at a sumptuous tournament, songs and good will intertwine with the sound of guns, and the whole evening will end with a medieval MASKED BALL and mysterious stories from the mists of time.

10:30 – 12:30 – Sound tests
13:00 – Beasts of the Cellars – Legends of Steel – interactive presentation of original historical swords and swords. The new beasts – the last acquisitions of the collection. Handling and testing the efficiency of ancient swords and swords.
14:00 – START OF MATCHES FOR THE PUBLIC! – Medieval themed costume contest, Treasure Hunt
15:00 – Timișoara Eyalet and István Losonczy Association – Battle for Timișoara, part I: The Siege of 1551
20:00 – THE GREAT BANQUET OF THE COMMITTEE - A sumptuous feast hosted by Ioan Huniade, in honor of the knights participating in the Tournament, where the winners of the war competitions will be rewarded and the justice of the committee will be distributed.
THE TOURNAMENT OF THE MINTS. A live show of musical improvisation in which the troubadours who arrived at the castle for the noble festivities will "face off" on stage with beautifully ringing "weapons" - old musical instruments worn in the courts of the castellans, but also in the camps of the soldiers. There will be peregrines and trouvers, bagpipers and viatores, all of whom have arrived since the beginning of the Middle Ages at the Huniade Castle Festival
20:50 – Announcement of the winners of the historical-themed costume contests and the Great Medieval Adventure
21:00 - PILGRIMS – IMAGINARIUM.
The bards of the past brought mysterious and strange stories to the courts of the castellans, but also to the camps lit by the fire in the evening, which recounted fantastic events of great heroes and mysterious happenings from other worlds. As night falls, the peregrine-troubadours of Huniade Castle will sing these haunting stories, bringing back from history the atmosphere of an evening from another time.
21:45 p.m. - THE MUSICIANS FROM TRANSYLVANIA
An innovative musical group that approaches historical music in an original way and in a manner designed especially for the big shows on stage. Today, they will liven up the second night of the festival with a show full of energy!
22:30 - DEEP6 PROJECT – pyrotechnic theater
Once again, the fire tamers bring to the Medieval festival an incendiary show and a story inspired by the universal legend of the battle between the earthly and the supernatural.

Throughout the day, the medieval fair and food and drink stalls will be open to the public. Visitors will also be able to have fun, trying their strength and skill at various medieval games of games: throwing rings at the target, throwing the log, or pulling the rope.

During the day, in the nomadic village, the public will be able to participate in workshops on recurve archery, painting and calligraphy, games specific to the culture of the Eurasian steppes.
Sunday, July 21: World of Medieval Warfare
The third day of the Festival is dedicated to the world of military confrontations of the Middle Ages, from the Carpathian Basin area. From the clashes of the crusaders with the swift charges of mounted archers, to the terrible artillery barrages from the war chariots of the Late Middle Ages, we invite you to follow the pages of our history live, ending the journey with the moment of the conquest of Timisoara by the Ottoman Empire and, conventionally, the end of the Medieval Age!
